Traffic jam is something which is encountered by all the people living in urban areas. But did you know that these traffic jams are not only irritating but they can affect your brain negatively? If someone faces these jams on a regular basis then these can cause common health problems like flu and cold and can also cause severe ones like cancer. The people who are stuck in the jam are exposed to loud noise, too much of smoke and feel lot of irritation because of the fact they get delayed for their work or home. These things affect the mental health of people gradually. Prolonged exposure to noise and air pollution because of jams can change the genetic structure and can cause genetic disorder.
Traffic jams affect the brain severely and they can lead to many mental disorders and reduce its capability of making decisions and logical thinking. As per a research, continuous exposure to the fumes during a jam for just 90 days can affect the structure of DNA. Elderly people have the chances of developing Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s syndrome if exposed too traffic jam regularly.
When people are stuck up in jams for long hours they tend to get short tempered very easily and on road it results in road rage. Other problems because of carbon monoxide like lung and respiratory problems, reduced oxygen supply to brain and heart leading to delayed reflexes, stress, anxiety, anger are very common. Effect of traffic jam on unborn babies is also severe and it can alter their DNA structure, cause autism and affect the neurons. All these things affect the mental growth and development of the brain of the child.
Traffic jams have all those bad effects on human health that are caused because of noise and air pollution. Noise pollution can cause sleep disorders, stress, fatigue and continuous headaches while air pollution impacts the nervous system, respiratory and circulatory system and hence leads to number of health problems.
So now it is all of us who have to work towards making our life better by changing the way we are living now.
